Step 1: On-Site Consultation
Every project starts with a free in-home visit. We measure the space, evaluate sun exposure, study how your cats currently use the home, and discuss design preferences. This usually takes 45 to 75 minutes.
Step 2: Design and Estimate
Within a week, we deliver a 3D rendering or detailed sketch along with an itemized written estimate. You'll see exact dimensions, material specifications, hardware grades, and finish options โ no vague allowances or guesswork.
Step 3: Permitting (When Required)
For larger or wall-attached structures we research the local code, prepare drawings, and pull permits. Most catios in San Jose are accessory structures that don't require permits, but we never assume.
Step 4: Material Staging
Lumber, mesh, fasteners, finishes, and trim are sourced from local Bay Area suppliers and staged on-site one to two days before construction begins.
Step 5: Construction
Our crew begins with footings (concrete piers, deck blocks, or attachment hardware), then framing, sheathing where applicable, mesh installation, doors, trim, and finishes. Typical builds take 2 to 7 days. We clean the site every evening.
Step 6: Cat-Safety Inspection
Before we hand over the keys, we run a full cat-safety inspection โ every seam, every fastener, every gap. We also stage the interior with shelves, ramps, and perches sized for your specific cats.
Step 7: Cat Introduction
We give you a printed guide to introducing your cats to the new space gradually. (See our introduction guide for the full method.)
